Just like a rag at the grocery store check out, I thought I’d take a look back at 2010 in photos. Most of my work focused on development of my Sage Spirit project.
January – Sage snow drifts on a mesa in the Curecanti NRA near Gunnison.
February – Moose were pawing to feed on bitterbrush at Antelope Flats in Grand Teton NP, WY
March – I traveled to Montrose for meetings and made this sunset image of Adobe Hills.
April – I made a two part Greater Sage Grouse trip to Pinedale, WY. In part one, I accompanied Matt Holloran on Pinedale Mesa to photograph collaring of hens in the middle of the night. That was a hoot! Matt, Senior Ecologist for Wyoming Wildlife Consultants, is studying impacts of natural gas drilling on sage grouse.
May – Miramonte (Reservoir) Evening – I made a trip to San Miguel County, CO for Endangered Gunnison Sage Grouse. Although I saw grouse on one of the satellite leks, I didn’t get the images I was after. Gouse have been displaced by development, including the reservoir at the base of Lone Cone Peak.
June – Brewer’s Sparrow Song, Black Canyon of The Gunnison National Park, CO
July – Crestone Peak, Crestone Needle, and Kit Carson Mountain – all fourteeners – from the summit of Humboldt Peak at Sunrise, Sangre De Cristo Wilderness, CO. Marla and I were climbing with friends Mike, Annie, and Chris.
August – Upper Green Evening Light Aerial, Sublette County, WY. I had the great priviledge of flying my first LightHawk mission with pilot Chris Boyer. The mission was documented in my “Please Don’t Drill Here” articles.
September – Marla on Bessegen Ridge, Jotenheimen NP, Norway. Trekking in Norway was a remarkable journey that ranks with Nepal, Peru, Tanzania…. This may be my favorite image from 2010.
October – Cottonwoods and Fog, along the Gunnison River, Curecanti NRA, CO
December – Deer and Gas Equipment, Pinedale Mesa, Sublette County, WY. See “Mule Deer Crash” for more about the Pinedale Mesa deer and the impact of gas drilling on the herd.
